Fire behavior moderated today as temperatures were kept down by a heavy smoke inversion which persisted in the area until late in the afternoon. Dozers continued to push line south and east along the 3N54 to create indirect containment lines around the south end of the Castle Fire. Crews around Skunk Ranch worked to clear vegetation under power poles to provide further protection. An approximately five- acre slopover occurred over the line today in the Miller Ranch area and was tied back into the line. Firefighters will remain in the area overnight to hold and mop up. Aircraft was able to get over the fires on the north side of the Complex late this afternoon to conduct mapping and reconnaissance. The York Fire is showing considerably less overall activity than yesterday. Firing operations on the northern edge of the fire went well, and crews will continue work through the night shift. In the Springer area, indirect dozer line was constructed from Forest Road 4N48 east to provide additional protection for the community. That line is being prepared tonight for future firing operations, should conditions permit. The Pattison Fire was also active today, with slops occurring over the line on the northern edge. Crews will continue to contain and hold those areas this evening. Crews also scouted and assessed old firelines on the southern side of the fire for containment possibilities.
